Kodak PlaySport Video Camera Review (B0030MITDK)

A fantastic new companion for all sports fanatics and adrenaline junkies! This Kodak PlaySport Video Camera is more than just an ordinary video camera. You can record your moves in full 1080pHD anywhere from the back of a dirt bike to 3m underwater! All in a compact, sleek package that fits neatly in your hand – ready to record all of your adventures.

A vital function for a sports camera is a good image stabilization system. Built to handle all kinds of extremes, the Kodak PlaySport can handle the rough and tumble, the bumps, falls and the splashes and still keep your images steady and clear.

Video footage isn’t always what you need in a given situation, and the Kodak PlaySport has that covered too. You can take 5MP, 16:9 Widescreen HD still photographs as well to capture a perfect moment.

To help you to always get great footage, you can enable the LCD Glare Shield function from your camera settings, and you can choose between two filters that will make it easier to see your subject clearly, even in direct sunlight. This filter is applied to the display screen only, not to your video, so you can always see exactly what you are doing.

Editing and sharing your videos has never been easier. Kodak’s built in software enables you to easily edit, add voiceovers and music, and upload your images and movies to Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. You can even share straight away by displaying your footage on the bright, clear 2.0” LCD screen, and even show the highlights in slow motion playback.

You are ready to go right out of the box – included is the Kodak PlaySport video camera, a Kodak Li-Ion Rechargeable battery, HDMI and AV cables, a wrist strap, a user guide, and Kodak software.

Pros

Many owners of this Kodak camera were very pleased with the results and quality of the HD video footage, particularly at 720p 60fps. They loved the ease of use, the ability to use it underwater, and particularly the size of the camera which made it convenient to carry around in a pocket or handbag.

Another customer was impressed by how well the facial detection feature worked, and also the image stabilization.

Other people commented on the camera’s ruggedness, with all sorts of accidents described, from dropping it into the fish pond, to a child throwing it down some stairs – all with the camera coming out on top.

Cons

Battery life was an issue according to some people who said that on a full charge, you can expect to get about an hour of video taking without previews. It is a pity they didn’t allow for the option of running the camera on double A batteries as a back up.

Another irritation felt by some people was the lack of an included camera case or SDHD card.

The 2x optical zoom was also felt to be too small to be of much use in a video camera meant for action shots.

The camera records in .MOV files which wasn’t suitable for many people, and who found it awkward to convert.

The coolest looking handheld pocket video camera out there, the Kodak PlaySport is perfectly designed to be taken into the heart of the action. Robust and easy to use, you will be able to record all of your adventures above or below water!
