Magnavox DV225MG9 Tunerless DVD Player Review (B001UCJVJI)

Magnavox DV225MG9 is a classic black DVD player and (4 head) video tape recorder without a tuner. It features Dolby sound, s-Video output, still frame and slow motion. Plays DVD Video, DVD+R/RW [VR format],CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW [Video format] and Audio CDs.

This product is also Energy Star qualified which means that not only are you helping the environment, but helping your own pocket too!

Pros:

It is a no-nonsense player, it does what it says it should do and it is easy to install. It’s cheap as well and that is a big deciding factor for many (for example a couple of teachers pointed out that the low price meant that they could afford to purchase their own equipment for class presentations).

Users noted that hook-up is quick and easy and that they did not need to get any extra cables. Others say that they get a great picture and decent qulaity sound and that for the price paid, that you can't beat it.

There are not a lot of choices left out there for VCR/DVD players and people say that the Magnavox device performs beyond expectations and that the quality of the VCR recording and playback is very good.

There are people who like the simplicity of using tapes and consumers say that they haven't had any difficulties taping any programs.

There is excellent service from customer support staff if you do run into any technical difficulties.

Cons:

Consumers pointed out that since there is no tuner, there isn't a coaxial connector on the back, only RCA, so, if you have an old TV that only has a coaxial connector, you will also need to buy a RF Modulator.

Another limitation of the device which was described is that without a built-in tuner you cannot record one channel while viewing another.

Users report some problems with VHS tape playback, such as tape skipping and poor picture (and/or sound quality) even though these same tapes played perfectly on their old VCRs. The tape rewind function has been described as slow.

Other criticisms mentioned were the difficulty identifying (reading) the controls on both the unit and the remote control. The red indicator lights on the unit are said to be small and difficult to discern at a distance, and the numerals on the remote control are difficult to read even close-up.

Some people complained that it was tricky to set up and record and that the instructions in the manual were skimpy. A couple of people had problems getting the DVD door panel to open.

Several users report that the unit failed after only a short period of time, so quality may be an issue.

The Magnavox DV225MG9 is a simple VHS player recorder and DVD player for those who want a budget device or who just like to keep things simple.
