Sony Ericsson W580i Cell Phone Review (B000U7UB7U)

The Sony Ericsson W580i is a stylish, thin, quad-band cell phone which is also a really cool Walkman. It features a handy feature which allows you to randomly choose another track stored on your phone with just a quick shake of the phone.

It’s also got a radio, Bluetooth, a 2 MP camera, a memory stick slot, a web browser as well as a facility to access your email.

This unlocked cell phone works with GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile (However not all carrier features may be supported and it will not work with CDMA carriers like Verizon Wireless, Alltel and Sprint)

It offers the consumer up to 9 hours of talk time, as well as up to an impressive 370 hours (2 weeks) of standby time.

Pros:

Several users praise the phone for its ability to produce crystal clear call quality. Furthermore the resolution produced by the screen gets really favorable reviews too.

Users like the sleek and compact design especially the anodized blue metal portion (not shown in Amazon photo). Users appreciate the slim design as it fits neatly in your pocket and because it has a slide cover you will not accidentally make calls. In addition the camera lens is also covered with a sliding panel which protects it from scratches and dust. The camera itself is referred to as having the ability to take very good outdoor photos.

Consumers really appreciate the phone’s MP3 playing ability as well as the user interface which allows for easy sorting of your favorite tracks.

Some buyers say that the battery life is surprisingly long.

Cons:

Customers report that the phone appears to be fragile. Users have mentioned that the screen may crack even without a fall and that the keypad is also liable to crack.

Other quality issues mentioned include the earpiece producing a buzzing noise (in one case after a year of use) and the earpiece failing entirely. In addition it seems that the charging/headset port fails a lot. Reviews indicate that after a period of use that you may have to jiggle the cord to get it to charge, and it often doesn't recognize a headset when one is inserted.

A couple of people mention that the phone may turn off on its own and delete everything stored on the memory.

Some users are disappointed with the performance of the battery; it may have to be charged daily on some units.

A number of users dislike the tiny keys on the keypad which make frequent use and texting rather difficult. The fact that the internet button is on the front may mean that you could accidentally connect to the Internet and incur unwanted charges as a result.

Other criticisms include the lack of a flash or photo light; it does not support 3G; you must use the Sony memory card which is more expensive and not as widely available as the generic micro SD.

If you are looking for a top brand phone which gives you super call quality, a wonderful screen and performs superbly as a Walkman too, then look no further than the Sony Ericsson W580i.
